Episode 4: The New Fashioned Old Fashioned.
The Old Fashioned was already "old" in 1929, when it was first described in print. But that doesn't mean that it can't be reinvented. We'll learn how to make Sother's preferred version of the classic spec, then try two of his contemporary reimaginations. The Sugarbush Old Fashioned is all fire and smoke, featuring cinnamon smoke, scorched orange oil, and Sother's Driftwood bitters. The Old Orchard swaps out every element of the classic spec for a beloved product of American orchards: the whiskey for apple brandy, the simple syrup for maple syrup, and the Angostura bitters for our cherry bark vanilla bitters. Along the way, we'll make the fourth and final bitters of the season: MinTea.
